Frequently asked questions
Can I run Mistral Large 4 on a Mac?
Only on a Mac with 512GB of memory, which leaves about 435 GB for models. Builds that fit: unsloth's UD-IQ1_S (233.01 GB, 1-bit), ggml-org's Q2_K (380.71 GB, 2-bit) and unsloth's UD-IQ3_XXS (423.52 GB, 3-bit). Too large for any Mac: ggml-org's Q4_K_M (634.80 GB, 4-bit). A 256GB Mac leaves about 218 GB, under the smallest build.
Why doesn't ModelFit rank Mistral Large 4?
Its 1-bit and 2-bit builds are a class ModelFit never ranks. UD-IQ3_XXS (3-bit, 423.52 GB) fits a 512GB Mac with only about 12 GB to spare, too little for the context cache and the runtime buffers. ModelFit lists the model with its build sizes, read from the Hugging Face file listings, and leaves it out of every ranking, score, speed estimate and machine page.
